WEST ESSEX TECHNICAL RESCUE TEAM (TRT-1) In 2007, in response to a profound need for more technical rescue training in the West Essex area, Fire Chief Kent Yates along with chiefs from several West Essex Towns formed the West Essex Technical Rescue team. This team, comprised of firefighters from several towns, has individuals trained in a variety of specialties and equipment caches to support the team. Comprised of firefighters from Roseland, North Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Fairfield, and Montclair, the team has members trained in trench rescue, confined space rescue, high angle rescue, water rescue, and collapse rescue. The Roseland Fire Department has a collection of trench rescue equipment carried in a special trailer donated in part by Elias Cohen Insurance Company. The team trains often and has had several successful rescues and deployments over the past several years, In 2008, the team was requested mutual aid into West Orange to rescue a contractor who became trapped in a 14 foot deep trench after a mudslide. The team successfully removed the victim and he made a full recovery. The team receive a valor citation from the 200 Club of Essex County for that rescue.
