On Tuesday April 12, 2011 RFD Truck 665 was requested to respond mutual aid to 220 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange where WOFD was engaged in fighting a large fire in an abandoned roller skating rink.  A defensive attack was mounted at a fire that eventually went to 3 alarms.  At the time of this call, Rescue 664 and Squad 668 were operating at the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident.

 

 

During the March 11-13, Roseland Fire Department was requested by Fairfield Fire Department to assist with flood related issues in their town.  Several of our firefighters responded to assist.

 

On Friday January 28, 2011 at approx. 0939 Roseland Fire Department was dispatched to Phillips Lane on the report of a house fire.

On arrival, Chief Yates (671) assumed command as he saw fire rolling out the door.  E-661, T-665, E-662, and Rescue 664 responded to the scene.  He immediately struck a second and third alarm bringing mutual aid to the scene from Livingston FD, East Hanover FD, and West Caldwell FD for a FAST team.  Roseland FAS stood by on scene and Essex Fells FD provided station coverage.  (Photo Credit: Roger Freda)

 

On Sunday November 11, 2010 at approx. 5:45pm, RFD was dispatched to Rutgers Court on a report of a structure fire.  On arrival, Chief 671 found a working basement fire and struck a 2nd alarm for a working fire.  E-661 arrived and stretched a line to the basement.  Other apparatus responding included E-663, L-665, Rescue 664, Engine 661-R, Utility 668, and car 660.  No one was injured in the fire. 

 

On Thursday October 7, 2010 at approx 1:15pm, RFD was dispatched to 2nd Avenue for a report of a car fire. The owner of a house, attempting to start a car, sparked a fire in the vehicle. While he went for an extinguisher, the fire spread to the garage and the structure. The man and his dog escaped safely. E-661, E-663 and R-664 responded. A quick stop was made and most damage was external. Mutual aid was provided by Livingston FD, West Caldwell FD, East Hanover FD, and Essex Fells FD.

On Sunday September 12, 2010 Roseland FD Truck 665 was dispatched mutual aid into Orange for a fire in a 5 story 100-unit apartment complex.  The truck was on scene for almost 12 hours working their master stream.  Engine 661 initially provided house coverage for Orange at 1400 and then got moved up to the scene for nearly 6 hours.  East Hanover FD covered Roseland's station during this time.

 

 

On Sunday June 13, 2010, Roseland FD E-661 and U-668 were dispatched to Two Bridges Road in Fairfield as a mutual aid FAST team for a working structure fire in an office building around 18:30.  The fire eventually went to multiple alarms before being brought under control around 23:00 hours.  RFD was initially used as a FAST team and then went to work as interior attack.  RFD Chief 671 and Captain 674 were Accountability Officers at the fire.

 

 

 

On Tuesday April 27, 2010, The Roseland Technical Rescue Team was requested mutual aid into West Caldwell for a man who fell into a hole at the construction site next to the sewer treatment plant.  The man sustained leg fractures and was removed by members of the West Caldwell Fire Department, West Essex First Aid Squad, Roseland Technical Rescue Team, West Caldwell Police, Caldwell Police, and Medic 7 Paramedics.

On Thursday April 8, 2010 at 0402, Roseland Fire was dispatched to a report of a smoking dumpster at a business on Eagle Rock Avenue.  Chief 671 arrived and assumed command.  A large industrial dumpster was spewing smoke and was adjacent to the structure creating an exposure problem.  Engine 661 and 662 responded, along with Rescue 664, Utility 668, and Roseland EMS.  When the dumpster was opened, a large fire was discovered inside along with several leaking chemicals bearing flammable and corrosive placards.  Two lines were stretched and overhaul and fire attack commenced with foam.    Storm drains were diked to prevent contamination and Nutley Haz Mat was called to the scene.  The fire took almost 2 hours to get under control and overhaul. On Friday March 19, 2010 RFD was requested to Route 280 West Between Exits 5 and 6 for a Fully involved car fire.  Chief 671 arrived first and was IC.  E-661 and E-662 responded and quickly knocked down the fire.  The driver was uninjured.

 

On Sunday January 10, 2010 Roseland Fire Department Truck 665 was requested by County Mutual Aid to respond to Millburn for a 4 alarm fire. A row of stores on Millburn Avenue was on fire.  665's crew was assigned to roof operations.  Crew consisted of Asst. Chief Lee, Lt. Yates, FF Freda, and FF Madden.  They are pictured below doing roof operations in 16 degree temperatures.

On Friday October 30, 2009 at 16:50, RFD was dispatched to 117 Harrison Avenue on the report of a heavy smoke condition.  On arrival, Captain Blasi (674) assumed command and  confirmed the heavy smoke condition.  Engine 661 arrived, forced entry to an industrial rug cleaning business and stretched an 1 3/4 line  to find a room and contents fire.  The fire was quickly knocked down and placed under control in several minutes.  The business was overhauled and ventilated.  Other responding RFD units includes Truck 665, Engine 662, Rescue 664, and Utility 668.  Essex Fells FD was requested for a FAST team and Roseland First Aid Squad stood by.  No injuries were reported and damage was minimal. May 30, 2009  Electrical Problem:  Monroe Avenue:  At 12:45am, Roseland Fire Department was dispatched to a call of smoke coming from a thermostat.  Lt. Yates 676 responded to the scene and requested E661, E662, and T665 to respond.  Chief 671 arrived and assumed command.  An electrical problem in the house led to some wires burning.  Units stood by until an electrician arrived.

May 29, 2009 Kitchen Fire at Bensi Restaurant.  Originally dispatched for a smoke detector activation, Chief 671 arrived on scene to report a smoke condition.  While the crew from Engine 661 stretched a line, the crew from Truck 665 entered the building to find a free burning cutting board left on a stove.  The Truck crew quickly knocked down the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher.  The building was ventilated and all units returned to service.

April 18, 2009  Mutual Aid Assignment Livingston:  Originally dispatched for a cover assignment, Engine 661 was re-routed to the scene of house fire as a FAST team.  They were later put to work for overhaul.  Truck 665 was special called to the scene for its cascade system for air bottles.

Mutual Aid Standby Assignment:  East Hanover

On Wednesday March 18, 2009 at approx. 7:15pm, Roseland Fire Department was dispatched to East Hanover Fire HQ for a cover assignment.  EHFD was called to back up Parsippany for a large brush fire.  As you can tell from the photo, we were very busy.

Mutual Aid FAST Team Assignment:  Essex Fells

On Sunday February 22, 2009 at approx. 11:45pm, Roseland Fire Department E-661 and U-668 were dispatched to Devon Road in Essex Fells as a mutual aid FAST team.  We stood by while Essex Fells and Caldwell Fire knocked down a chimney fire that extended to the roof and living room.  We assisted with salvage and overhaul.  (Photo Credit Lt. March 23, 2008:  Brush Fire (Mutual Aid to Livingston at Riker Hill)

August 2007:  Engine 661 was dispatched to West Orange Jewelers for a smoke alarm activation.  On arrival, the crew found a heavy smoke condition.  The crew requested a ladder and additional engine to the scene and made forcible entry through the front door with a charged line.  An electrical fire had been primarily knocked down by the sprinkler system and the crew of 661 completed the knockdown and overall process.

December, 2006:  A small trash fire in the basement of 101 Eisenhower Parkway.  Crews from E-661, E-662 and L-665 knocked down the fire with a water can and ventilated the building.
